Institutional Repository and Digital Collections Librarian

Institutional Repository and Digital Collections Librarian

The Curtis Laws Wilson Library of the Missouri University of Science and Technology invites applications for the position of Institutional Repository and Digital Collections Librarian. Missouri S&T, one of four campuses of the University of Missouri, is the premier science and engineering campus of the system. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in science and engineering, and undergraduate degrees in the liberal arts.

Within the library, 10 professionals and 16 support staff serve 350 faculty and 5500 high-ability students. The collection includes approximately 400,000 volumes and over 25,000 periodical titles. Missouri S&T is also a selective depository for U.S. and Missouri government documents. The building provides a modern, open, pleasant work environment. Strong emphasis is placed on cooperation with public services. The relatively small staff size and flexible organizational structure assure staff of active involvement in library concerns and allows us to regularly undertake innovative technical projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the production and organization of the Scholars’ Mine, Missouri S&T’s Institutional Repository (http://scholarsmine.mst.edu). Innovate and grow the Repository’s collection and system to be a trend-setting leader in repository form and function. Hire and train student workers to assist with the processing of faculty and student works into the repository. Lead the Mine Team, consisting of library and IT department staff, to continue the development of the Scholars’ Mine. Lead an advisory committee of campus faculty to ensure the needs and interests of the campus are known. Interact with faculty to discover new collections, present the repository concept to various campus groups and perform general outreach activities regarding repository functions. Act as the liaison between various campus entities that have a stake in the repository including the library, faculty, administration, information technology and students. Additionally, both as part of the Scholars’ Mine operation and in general, act as advisor on copyright concerns from both the author and publisher standpoint to ensure compliance in all areas as the Scholars’ Mine adds materials. Work with other University of Missouri campus libraries and the UM Library Systems Office on cooperative projects in the area of digital collections. Assist in identifying local resources to digitize and serve as the primary organizer and expert in deciding the correct platform to host the content.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited MLS; previous experience or education involving MARC 21, Dublin Core or another metadata standard. Desired: Familiarity with other institutional repository projects, experience working in a college or university library, technical computer skills involving knowledge of basic programming or database principles. Ability to communicate successfully with all types of people, both in person and via written communication, one-on-one and in groups. Additionally, knowledge of the higher education research and education process is desirable.

SALARY and BENEFITS: 12 month, non-tenured faculty position at Librarian II level; $40,000 minimum; 28 days vacation annually and 8 paid holidays; vested retirement after five years; university medical and dental benefits package.
